Did You Know

Did You Know?

FORWARD NEVER STRAIGHT

Did you know that other options exist other than the Straight Shot?

Options – The City staff have admitted there are two alternatives (replacing the current bridge and the straight shot) but are only marketing (with a $600k campaign and PR firm) the straight shot. They aren’t giving residents the full picture.

Did you know that Aspen doesn’t need the Straight Shot for emergency access?

Access – The City is dramatizing the emergency access needs. They don’t even have an emergency access plan now for the multiple access routes available today (Castle Creek, Rio Grande, Power Plant Rd, Marolt pedestrian bridge). Many current and former fire experts believe the City’s argument is bogus.

Did you know a new Record of Decision will likely be needed costing millions and take several years?

Record of Decision – A new ROD is needed with a new Environmental Impact study. The City wants to push a vote without this critical information. The city keeps telling innocent citizens that what they are selling has already been approved which is not true.

Did you know that City of Aspen does not yet know how much the Straight Show will cost?

Cost – The 2016 estimate of $100M is seriously outdated. Costs to citizens would likely be at least 3 times that amount. The City would need to replace and maintain the current bridge which isn’t in the cost estimates. Again, the City pushing for a vote without this critical info.

Did you know we can replace the Castle Creek bridge now with less impact and same traffic outcomes?

Existing bridge replacement – The City is dramatizing what it would take to replace and widen the existing bridge. There are options that would minimize any impact.

Like peeling back an onion, each layer revels something else.

Aspen voters do not want to give up open space for pavement. But just as numerous previous votes indicate,

Must open the ROD: 24 years old. The analysis and findings are outdated.

The moral dilemma of taking open space. Is it the right thing to do?

 Fix the Castle Creek Bridge.
